Nanjing University Hosts Seminar on Independent Chinese Economics Knowledge System and ‘Introduction to Chinese Economics’ Publication Symposium

On May 25, a seminar on building an independent knowledge system of Chinese economics and a symposium on the publication of “Introduction to Chinese Economics” were held at Nanjing University’s Gulou Campus. Hong Yinxing, former secretary of the Nanjing University Party Committee and senior professor of humanities and social sciences, Liu Wei, former president of Renmin University of China, Fan Weiwen, vice president of Shanghai People’s Publishing House and president of Gezhi Publishing House, and Sun Leqiang, director of the Publicity Department of the Nanjing University Party Committee, jointly unveiled the new book. Liu Wei and other experts and scholars made keynote speeches at the seminar. The meeting was chaired by Fan Conglai, director of the Research Center for Economic and Social Development of the Yangtze River Delta of Nanjing University.

Hong Yinxing introduced the publication of “Introduction to Chinese Economics” to the guests. He said that the basic method of Chinese economics research is problem-oriented. There are many problems in reality, and the guiding questions can only be “the most important ones of the country”. Chinese economics answers questions about China, the people, the times, and the world. He pointed out that economics has been a discipline that studies economic systems, economic operations, and the laws of economic development since its inception. Chinese economics takes the Chinese economy as its object, tells the Chinese story, and studies the laws of contemporary Chinese economic systems, operations, and development. The theoretical system of Chinese economics answers China’s questions in five dimensions: economic system analysis, economic operation analysis, economic development analysis, development momentum analysis, and economic security analysis. The book “Introduction to Chinese Economics” focuses on the study of major issues of reform and development, reflects problem orientation in terms of system structure and content arrangement, and constructs an independent knowledge system of Chinese economics in systematically answering questions about China, the people, the times, and the world.

Fan Weiwen spoke on behalf of the publishing houses Shanghai People’s Publishing House and Gezhi Publishing House. He pointed out that “Introduction to Chinese Economics” is an economics monograph with great theoretical value. Based on China’s national conditions and the practice of reform and opening up, Professor Hong Yinxing, with his solid theoretical foundation in Marxist political economics and development economics, has refined the basic principles of Chinese economics and systematically answered the questions of China, the people, the times and the world in response to the needs of the times in the new stage of China’s economic development. It provides a demonstration and guidance for academic research in building China’s independent economics knowledge system. He said that Shanghai People’s Publishing House, Gezhi Publishing House and the academic community have a long history of cooperation, and look forward to continuing to work with experts and scholars in the future to contribute to the construction of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics and the construction of an independent economics knowledge system.

During the keynote speech session of the seminar, Liu Wei, Chen Xin, former president of Shanghai Century Publishing Group, Yang Ruilong, former dean of the School of Economics of Renmin University of China, Huang Guitian, president of Shanxi University, Ding Renzhong, former secretary of the Party Committee of Sichuan Normal University, Pang Jinju, former vice president of Nankai University, Song Donglin, former president of Jilin University of Finance and Economics, Cheng Lin, dean of the Institute of Chinese Economic Thought Development of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Huang Taiyan, former president of Minzu University of China, Zhang Yitian, deputy director of the Theoretical Department of People’s Daily, Zhang Yan, editor-in-chief of the Economics Edition of the Theoretical Department of Guangming Daily, Hu Huaiguo, executive deputy editor-in-chief of “Economic Dynamics”, and Xin Yanxiang, deputy editor-in-chief of China Gezhi Press, spoke successively and had in-depth exchanges on issues such as the research objects, research paradigms, theoretical logic, and discourse innovation of Chinese economics, in order to gather wisdom and strength to accelerate the construction of an independent knowledge system of Chinese economics.

It is reported that “Introduction to Chinese Economics” is the research result of Professor Hong Yinxing’s long-term teaching and research in Chinese economics, as well as his research on major national social science projects and the compilation of the first batch of Chinese economics textbooks planned by the National Textbook Bureau. This book takes the category of wealth as the logical starting point of Chinese economics, highlights the analysis of the goals, process and path of Chinese modernization, and uses this as the main line of the book. It refines Chinese economics in a problem-oriented way and makes efforts to construct an independent knowledge system of Chinese economics in systematically answering questions about China, the people, the times and the world. This seminar and new book symposium were hosted by the National Research Center for Socialist Political Economy with Chinese Characteristics of Nanjing University, the Research Center for Economic and Social Development of the Yangtze River Delta of Nanjing University, Shanghai People’s Publishing House, and Gezhi Publishing House.
