Wageningen University & Research Rector Launches Open Science & Education Campaign

Transparency, collaboration and building on each other’s work: don’t we all want that? In recent years, WUR has taken several steps in the field of Open Science. For instance, almost all publications are open access. But much more is still possible! To encourage more open science practices, WUR has started a university-wide campaign.

On Wednesday 22 May, Carolien Kroeze, Rector Magnificus of WUR, symbolically opened a vault containing the first campaign posters. The vault represents the closed and inaccessible nature of many studies and educational materials – even though transparency, integrity and social impact are WUR core values.

Open Science as standard

The campaign is organised by the Open Science & Education (OSE) programme. This programme aims for Open Science to become the standard way of working within WUR. Open Science not only means the Open Access publication of scientific articles but also the opening up of datasets, free sharing of educational materials and citizen participation in research. The programme therefore consists of four components: Open Access & Open Scholarly Communication, FAIR data, Citizen Science and Open Education.
