Central University of Tamil Nadu Celebrates World Environment Day with Tree Planting Initiative

Commemorating World Environment Day, the Department of Mathematics at the Central University of Tamil Nadu conducted a tree-planting initiative on 05 June 2024. This eco-conscious endeavour was buoyed by the support of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, wherein nearly 100 tree saplings found their new home within the premises of the University campus adjacent to the Mathematics Department.

Mr LCS Srikanth (DFO) of Thiruvarur expressed his appreciation for the collaborative effort, emphasising the importance of nurturing green spaces within educational institutions. He revealed that these tree saplings were explicitly cultivated for planting at the Central University of Tamil Nadu campus, and plans are underway to plant over 20,000 more saplings in a phased manner.

As a part of its commitment to sustainability, the Central University of Tamil Nadu has embarked on various green initiatives, including establishing a Miyawaki forest in both the academic campus at Neelakudi and the residential campus at Nagakudi.

The tree planting event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr M Krishnan, the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Dr R Thirumurugan, the Registrar; CA GR Giridharan, the Finance Officer; Prof. Dr Sulochana Shekhar, the Controller of Examinations; Dr R Parameshwaran, the Librarian; and Mr LCS Srikanth, the DFO of Thiruvarur. Alongside them, several senior professors associated with the Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme, such as Prof. S Kumaresan, Prof. G Santhanam, Prof. T Sengadir, Prof. Renuka Devi, and Dr A Chandrashekaran, lent their support to the green initiative.
