Australian Ambassador to Cairo Meets with President of Alexandria University
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, received today at the university headquarters in Shatby, Dr. Axel Wabenhorst, the Australian Ambassador to Cairo, and his accompanying delegation, to discuss enhancing the frameworks of joint cooperation between Alexandria University and Australian universities and academic institutions.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Hisham Saeed, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of the University for Education and Students Affairs, Dr. Bushra Salem, Assistant President of the University for International Classifications, Dr. Gihan Gewaifel, Assistant President of the University for International University Branches Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Abdelhakim, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and Dr. Essam Wahba, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
In his speech, Dr. Konsowa welcomed the Australian Ambassador to Alexandria University, stressing the university’s keenness to develop relations with Australian academic institutions in areas of common interest. He pointed out that Alexandria University seeks to improve the level of educational service and scientific research, and enhance international competitiveness within the framework of Egypt’s Vision 2030, by establishing dual and joint degrees with highly ranked international universities, establishing branches of international universities in cooperation and coordination with Alexandria University, and developing the African role through the university’s branches in Chad and South Sudan. He pointed out the university’s support for scientific research and taking several measures in this regard, including launching an initiative to support young researchers, financing applicable research projects, and establishing the Alexandria University Technology Park incubator. He also pointed out the university’s interest in linking scientific research to industry, especially in the fields of water, energy, and agriculture, through the activities and programs provided by the Water Excellence Centre at the university.
The Australian Ambassador expressed his pleasure for being at Alexandria University, which has a distinguished academic reputation, within the framework of the distinguished relations between Egypt and Australia, stressing his country’s keenness to develop scientific and research cooperation with Egyptian academic institutions in general and Alexandria University in particular, in the fields of engineering, mining, water, new and renewable energy, and agriculture.
