A Decade of Wellness: IIM Nagpur Embraces ‘Yoga for Self and Society’
Nagpur: IIM Nagpur proudly celebrated the 10th edition of the International Day of Yoga at its MIHAN campus, marking a decade of dedication to this ancient practice. The event, held at the Convention Block, commenced at 7 AM and witnessed enthusiastic participation from the faculty members, students, and non-teaching staff. Led by Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, and Lt. Col. Makarand V Alur (Retd.), CAO, IIM Nagpur celebrated the International Day of Yoga with ample zeal.
The theme for this year, ‘Yoga for Self and Society,’ highlighted Yoga’s transformative power in promoting individual well-being and fostering a healthier, more harmonious society. Emphasizing this exclusive theme, the event underlined Yoga as a holistic practice to cultivate mental clarity, emotional balance, and a deeper connection between the mind and body.
This year’s International Day of Yoga celebration at IIM Nagpur was further enriched by the guidance of Ms. Madhura Shinde, an MBA 2023-25 batch student and a Yoga expert and instructor herself. She led the participants through a series of Asanas and Pranayamas. The Asanas performed included Tadasana, Tiryak Tadasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Padahastasana, Trikonasana, Vajrasana, Ardha Ushtrasana, Vakrasana, and Paschimottanasana. The Pranayamas included Anulom Vilom and Kapalbhati. Her expertise and passion for Yoga inspired all attendees, making the session stimulating, educational, and noteworthy.
Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi noted that Yoga is for everyone, transcending ethnicities, faiths, and cultures. His words emphasized that Yoga is a universal practice that fosters physical fitness, mental calmness, and emotional contentment. It is not just an exercise but a way of life as it promotes holistic health and well-being.
Since commemorated in 2015, the International Day of Yoga has transcended cultural boundaries and become a global phenomenon. IIM Nagpur’s decade-long celebration stands as a testament to the enduring significance of Yoga in contemporary society.
