Aston University Event Highlights Success of Knowledge Transfer Partnership
Aston University celebrated the success of its Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) projects with industry partners and project associates by hosting a KTP poster showcase and competition event on Wednesday 12 June 2024.
Attended by over 200 senior representatives from across industry, Innovate UK (IUK), Aston University and other strategic stakeholders, the event provided an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the projects, the University’s growing KTP portfolio and the research excellence demonstrated by these collaborations.
IUK was represented by Richard Lamb, KTP Programme Manager, who outlined the importance of Aston University’s contribution to a wider innovation landscape and emphasised that businesses are in excellent hands with such a skilled and dedicated KTP support team.
Bringing together the worlds of research and business, a KTP is a three-way collaboration between a business, an academic partner and a highly qualified researcher, called an associate. The UK-wide programme helps businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills, and results suggest that companies engaging with our KTP team see a return on investment of over 1100%.
Aston University is a leading provider of KTPs, ranked second in the UK by IUK for the size of its portfolio. Notably, Aston University’s KTP projects are recognised for their exceptional quality, ranking first nationally, and winning the Best KTP Project and Best KTP Support Team categories at the most recent IUK KTP Awards in 2023.
Professor Aleks Subic, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Aston University, presented awards to the best projects.
Winners in management, African agriculture, early stage and established project categories on the evening included Waleed Ahmed Shaikh for their role as associate with Creative Manufacturing, Paxwell Damptey Adjei, working with SAYeTECH, Abimbola Falodu who works as an associate with Thames Labs and Ainul Nadirah Izaharuddin who works as an associate with Mechatherm.
Professor Subic said:
“The KTP showcase is an exceptional opportunity to get together with our business partners and researchers to celebrate the exceptional outcomes Aston University achieves in collaboration with the KTP associates and industry across the various sectors and disciplines.
“The impact our teams are making in their respective industries is truly remarkable and it is a testament to the thriving innovation ecosystem we are building here at Aston University.”
