Mandela University’s Katekani Mabunda Awarded National Enactus Leadership Prize

The University’s Mindzz Crack enterprise team was also selected as one of the top 15 enterprises in the MTN Digital Innovation Challenge, for students to create a digital solution for social issues in the Health, Agriculture and Education sectors.

Katekani, who is a Diploma in Economics student, said only one student leader per year can receive this leadership award at national level, for recognition of outstanding and proven leadership abilities through their participation as a project/team leader.

The recipient also has to show dedication to their work and lead their teams with excellence, being a great example of a student leader. The Mandela Enactus team had to nominate Katekani and motivate why they believed she deserved the award.

Katekani, who has been part of Enactus since 2021, says she also believes in creating new leaders to be able to take charge in future. “I believe I have proven that leaders can be made and that even our weaknesses can sometimes become our greatest strengths”, she said.

Mandela University’s Mindzz Crack was developed for children in Grade R to 5, tackling basic literacy, maths and mental and life skills. The app is still in prototype phase. The team was selected among the top 15, as they have proven that their idea is needed, it is innovative and shows entrepreneurial skills. They won funding and a laptop for their enterprise.
