Gurugram : Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram in a significant step towards creating a greener city, invited various societies and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), to participate in a Tree Plantation Drive. This noble initiative aims to enhance the city’s green cover, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable environment for its residents. The drive was flagged off by the Honourable Chief Guest of the drive, Major Gen. A K Siwach, along with Dr Saurabh Lall, Facility Director, Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram, several society members, RWA members, Hospital Staff, and other esteemed guests.
Starting from today the tree plantation drive has successfully commenced in Arihant Apartments, Aakash Ganga, J&U Arravali, Royal Palm, and Divya Apartment. Following this, the drive will subsequently be seen in collaboration with the remaining societies in the coming days.
The Tree Plantation Drive is a collaborative effort planned to be conducted in various phases by inviting residential societies and schools across Gurugram to partner and contribute to this impactful drive. The Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram will source the saplings and plant them on the premises of the societies and schools. The societies and schools participating will take care of maintaining the plants and the hospital will replace any plant that does not survive. The tree plantation drive is aimed at encouraging responsibility in the younger population in schools and conferring a sense of duty in them. This initiative is expected to be replicated in Faridabad as well, further extending the green cover and promoting environmental awareness among more communities.
This initiative reflects Marengo Asia Hospitals’ commitment to environmental sustainability and community welfare. The drive not only focuses on planting trees but also emphasizes the importance of nurturing and maintaining them to ensure their long-term survival and growth.
Dr Raajiv Singhal, Managing Director & Group CEO, Marengo Asia Hospitals said, “As healthcare professionals, we recognize the profound impact our environment has on public health. Trees play an essential role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem, providing clean air, regulating temperatures, and even supporting mental well-being. With this tree plantation drive, we are not just planting trees; we are sowing the seeds of a healthier future. As a community, our actions today can help reduce the adverse effects of climate change, ensuring a more stable and liveable environment for future generations. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to creating a healthier and more sustainable world. With partners, we can nurture a greener, cleaner, and healthier planet for ourselves and our children.”
Major Gen A K Siwach, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in urban areas, stressing the need for collective efforts in combating environmental challenges, said, “To save the Earth for coming generations we need to plant trees. No doubt trees help in cleaning the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines. Tree plantations will enhance the production of oxygen in the environment and improve the air quality and the world’s environment will become a safer place to live in. Tree plantation also reduces pollution, thus making the life of future generations secure.”
Mr Naresh Ahuja, President RWA – Arihant Society, Gurugram said, “We are very happy to be a participating partner in this noble cause and endeavor. It gives us pride to contribute to this impactful initiative that will give all of us good health, control pollution, and prevent many diseases from affecting us.”
Tree Plantation drives combat many environmental issues like deforestation, erosion of soil, desertification in semi-arid areas, global warming and hence enhancing the beauty and balance of the environment. Trees absorb harmful gases and emit oxygen increasing oxygen supply. To keep the Earth as a habitable living planet, everyone should take responsibility for making it better. Trees are an important source of life for the living kind, be it humans, animals, or birds. India, with its diverse ecosystems and climatic zones, is home to a wide variety of native trees. These trees contribute to the country’s rich biodiversity and play essential roles in ecosystems, culture, and daily life.
