ISB and AIG Hospitals collaborate to redefine healthcare innovation with AI
The initiative aims to empower healthcare practitioners (doctors & allied professionals) with AI-enabled skills, transforming clinical practices and improving patient outcomes
The Indian School of Business (ISB) has announced a collaboration with AIG Hospitals, one of the world’s top-ranked gastroenterology institutions and India’s largest super-speciality tertiary care hospital, for an initiative that redefines healthcare in India by merging the capabilities of AI with clinical experience of doctors in India. Designed as the ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare Programme’, it aims to foster a new era of innovation and excellence in healthcare delivery and most importantly enhance patient experience.
The two institutions are aligned to a common goal of India-first, AI-led healthcare innovation – creating best practices for India’s clinicians, hospitals and allied healthcare organisations to deliver India-focused patient outcomes.
The initiative – ‘AI in Healthcare Programme’ addresses the significant challenge of clinician involvement in tech innovation. The Max Institute of Healthcare Management (MIHM), an interdisciplinary research institute at ISB, will be the principal knowledge partner in this collaboration which aims to create an unparalleled platform for healthcare innovation in India. The programme is being co-developed by researchers at MIHM, ISB and clinicians from AIG Hospitals to empower healthcare leaders with advanced AI skills and understand AI’s implementation in clinical practices which will potentially elevate patient outcomes in both diagnostic as well as therapeutic aspects.
Dr D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman, AIG Hospitals, expressed, “AI-based healthcare is the future, especially in the context of low-middle income countries where we are dealing with a significant increase in non-communicable and lifestyle diseases. This collaboration is a monumental leap towards integrating AI in healthcare, promising to revolutionise patient care across India and would set an example for other countries.”
Sarang Deo, Professor, Operations Management, Deputy Dean – Faculty and Research, Executive Director – MIHM, stated, “AI has made significant strides in recent years, including in the healthcare sector. Yet, there are only a handful of success stories where AI created value for patients and healthcare organisations. At the ISB’s Max Institute of Healthcare Management, we are generating new insights on the underlying drivers of AI success, especially pertaining to people (behavioural science) and processes (systems science). This initiative will help to both disseminate these insights and create early adopters as well as to generate new ideas which can be rigorously studied to create new insights.”
Delivered by ISB Executive Education, the programme is structured into two phases, conducted every six months for predominantly senior doctors and health-tech leaders. The initial phase focuses on design thinking and strategic alignment of AI technology with patient-care objectives. The subsequent phase involves creating technology competence amongst the participants, which will allow them, post-programme, to successfully identify and implement AI-led projects in their respective fields. Under this programme, participants will gain critical insights and skills to recognise and address opportunities and barriers in AI implementation, tackle unmet clinical needs with innovative solutions, and develop AI-driven business models that enhance clinical excellence and patient care.
Sujatha Kumaraswamy, Executive Director, Executive Education and Digital Learning at ISB, stated, “This collaboration with AIG Hospitals marks a significant milestone for Indian healthcare. This partnership aims to empower clinicians and administrators to lead technological advancements, driving the next phase of AI-driven innovation in the medical industry. The programme will enable participants to join the distinguished ISB Executive Education network, elevating their capabilities through valuable support, feedback, and progress monitoring.”
Dr. Rakesh Kalapala, Academic Advisor of the Programme & Director – Endoscopy (Centre for Obesity & Metabolic Therapy), AIG Hospitals, highlighted, “By focusing on real-world applications and direct clinician involvement, we are poised to drive impactful advancements in healthcare, benefiting patients immensely. The idea is to foster an ecosystem where clinicians are an equal stakeholder in the rapidly changing AI world.”
Kinjal Saxena, Chief Technology Officer, AIG Hospitals, mentioned, “Our mission is to blend healthcare and technology seamlessly, fostering unprecedented India-first innovations. With ISB Executive Education’s expertise in delivering global standards of learning for executives and AIG’s clinical domain knowledge along with practical use-cases of AI in healthcare, this programme epitomises our dedication to leading this transformative journey.”
Guided by industry stalwarts, academic visionaries and international experts, the programme will be led by Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman, AIG Hospitals, Prof. Sarang Deo, Deputy Dean – Faculty and Research and, Executive Director – Max Institute of Healthcare Management, Dr. Prateek Sharma, President – ASGE (American Society of GI Endoscopy) & AIGI, Dr. Rakesh Kalapala, Director – Endoscopy (Centre for Obesity & Metabolic Therapy) and Kinjal Saxena, CTO, AIG Hospitals.
