Workshop on “Model Curriculum for Madrasa and NEP 2020” Held at AMU

Aligarh : Subject experts, Ulemas and academicians from diverse background including Madrasas discussed and deliberated upon various dimensions of the curriculum, desirable amendments, legal framework and National Education Policy 2020, in the two day national workshop, entitled “Model Curriculum for Madrasa and NEP 2020”.

The workshop was organised by the Centre for the Promotion of Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh.

Welcoming the delegates, Mr. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Director, Centre for the Promotion of Science delineated the aims and objectives of the workshop. He pointed out the meagre proportion of Madarsa pass-outs properly employed owing to the lack of required educational certificates and skills. He emphasized the need for reformation of Madrasa education including the curriculum.

In the inaugural address, Prof. Saud Alam Qasmi highlighted the important role played by Madrasas in safeguarding Deen. He urged upon reviewing the Madrasa curriculum, keeping in view the requirements of the current times.

The eminent academician and legal luminary Professor Faizan Mustafa delivered a highly informative address over Madrasatul Uloom Musalmanan-e-Hind, Madrasa Boards and Waqf, discussing the relevant articles of the Indian Constitution and legal position.

The Keynote speaker Maulana Fazlur Raheem Mujaddidi, General Secretary, All India Muslim Personal Law Board elaborated upon the need of revising the Madrasa curriculum for the betterment of the future generations.

In his presidential remarks, Professor Ishtiyaq Ahmad Zilli said “there was a time when we reproduced eminent Ulema as well as scientists. Now the situation is different”. He said it is high time to look at our education system and fill the gap to face the current challenges locally and globally.

Maulana Abdullah Saud stressed that Madrasa should provide an education that equips the students with religious education as well as skills that will enable them to get employment. Mufti Badre Alam Misbahi and Mufti Affan Mansoorpuri also spoke in the inaugural session.

Professor Masroor Alam, Joint Director, Centre for the Promotion of Science proposed a vote of thanks. The Inaugural session was conducted by Dr. Ahmad Mujtaba Siddique.

The Workshop was divided into six technical sessions and various issues related to the Madrasa education system were discussed by intellectuals and representatives of prominent Madrasas and institutions, including Dr. Abdul Qadir, Director, Shaheen Academy, Dr. Shoib Raza Khan, Dr. Sulaiman Asad, Maulana Nabeel Azahri, Maulana Kalbe Rashid Rizvi, Professor Nissar Ahmad, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Azahri, Prof. Aftab Alam, Fahim Usman Siddique, Professor Abid Ali Khan, Professor Mohibul Haq, Maulana Dr. Yaseen Ali Usmani, Syed Ahmad Faisal Wali Rehmani, Dr. Sadaat Suhail, Prof. Mohd Idrees, Prof. Rehan Khan Suri, Prof. M.M. Sufyan Beg, Prof. Jahangir Warsi, Dr. Junaid Misbahi, Prof. Gulam Yahya, Maulana Mehdi Aini Qasmi, Maulana Hasnair Azhari Andamani, Dr. Obaid Iqbal Asim Qasmi, Maulana Umar Aslam Islahi, Dr. Mohiuddin Gazi, Dr. Nadeem Ashraf, Dr. Obaidul Qadri, Maulana Tahir Madani, and Dr. Razi ul Islam Nadwi among others.
