Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu Observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day  

 

Jammu : Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day at its Jagti Campus on 14th August 2024. The event featured a poignant skit depicting the tragic experiences of the Partition.

 

Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, in his address reflected on the immense tragedy of the Partition, describing it as a painful division of the motherland. He urged everyone to remember the sacrifices made for freedom and to pledge that such divisions never occur again. He also emphasized the importance of national unity. He highlighted the importance of remembering this day, as coined by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to ensure that the horrors of the Partition are never forgotten. He urged everyone to always prioritize the nation first, emphasizing that unity is strength. He expressed his vision of a united and prosperous India by 2047 and cited IIM Jammu as an example of “Mini India,” symbolizing the country’s diversity. He concluded by paying tribute to all the families who suffered during the Partition and called for a collective remembrance and resolve to prevent such divisions in the future.

 

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu, reflected on the profound psychological and physical pain caused by the Partition. He emphasized the importance of unity in diversity, urging the students to innovate and contribute to India’s growth, aiming for a developed nation by 2047.

 

Cmdr. Kesavan Baskkaran, Chief Administrative Officer, IIM Jammu, shared stories of the Partition’s impact beyond India, including Burma and Sri Lanka. He emphasized the importance of understanding history to avoid repeating its mistakes.

 

Dr. Ashish Kumar, Chairperson, Student Affairs, spoke on the necessity of transcending religious and regional divides. He pointed out that while economic growth is essential, true development must also encompass social harmony.

 

Dr. Apurva Yadav, Co-Chairperson, Student Affairs, IIM Jammu highlighted the painful incidents of the Partition, stressing that history should not be allowed to repeat itself. He reiterated the significance of maintaining unity and working towards a developed nation.

 

The observance concluded with a solemn remembrance and a collective resolve to ensure that the horrors of the Partition are never forgotten.
