Alumni Association of APC Ray Polytechnic celebrates 163rd Birth Anniversary of eminent scientist Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray
Following its annual tradition, the Alumni Association of Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray Polytechnic, Jadavpur, Kolkata organized the celebration of the 163rd Birth Anniversary and Memorial Lecture of eminent Bengali Scientist, Industrialist and Visionary Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray, after whom the college has been named. The event included paying homage by garlanding the statue of APC Ray at the campus on his birthday i.e. 2nd August, followed by planting around 15 saplings around the campus in continuation of our commitment towards environmental sustainability.
On 21st August 2024, an academic symposium was organized on the occasion, titled “Retrospection on the Life and Work of Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray”. Dr. Vamsi Krishna Balla, Chief Scientist and Head-Bioceramics & Coating Division, Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute, Jadavpur, Kolkata, was the Chief Guest at the occasion and he delivered the “APC Ray Memorial Lecture” on the topic “3-Dimensional Printing”. He also spoke about the rich heritage and tradition of Science in Bengal which was pioneered by Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray.
President of the Alumni Association, Shri. Partha Pratim Sarkar inaugurated the symposium and highlighted the values and principles of this great 74-year-old Engineering Institution and how it is always guided by the rich values of APC Ray. Shri Prasun Kanti Bhattacharya, Working President spoke about the symposium and similar curricular and extracurricular activities that the Alumni Association regularly engages in, which ensure overall development of students. Senior members of Alumni Association and joint conveners of the symposium Shri. Debajyoti Majumder and Smt. Mausumi Paul, delivered a seminar for students on “Career Development Guidelines”.
The toppers of the Institution, from all the six disciplines of engineering for the year 2023, were awarded the APC Ray Memorial Medal and Certificate, by the Alumni Association. Shri. Ashutosh Chakraborty, Former Principal of the college & Chief Patron of the Alumni Association, Shri. Kanchan Chakraborty, Chief Advisor, Shri. Satyabrata Dasgupta, Senior Advisor, were also present. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from many alumni members who are well established in their respective fields, industry representatives and current students. Shri. Bibhas Jana, secretary of the Alumni Association, delivered the Vote of Thanks.
