ALIGARH : Prof Rashid Umar, Department of Geology, Aligarh Muslim University has been appointed Chairman of his department for a period of three years with immediate effect.

Prof Umar has been engaged in teaching and research for over 30 years and before joining AMU as a lecturer, he worked as a Hydrogeologist in the Ministry of Water Resources, Sultanate of Oman and Mott MacDonald International. His teaching interests include Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology with special focus on Hydrochemistry, Groundwater Resource Evaluation, Aquifer Modeling and Aquifer Vulnerability studies.

He has published more than 70 research papers in peer reviewed journals of national and international repute and has more than 1450 citations with H-index 24 and i-10 index 34.

Prof Umar has completed major research projects funded by Ministry of Water Resources and Department of Science Technology, Government of India, and attended several international and national conferences, congress and workshops.

He has received INC IAH Award for Excellence in Ground Water Science by Indian National Chapter of International Association of Hydrogeologists.
