29th Orientation Programme for MSW-I Semester Students Held

 

Aligarh: The Department of Social Work at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) conducted the 29th Orientation Programme for the newly admitted Master of Social Work (MSW) students for the 2024-25 session. The programme aimed to acquaint students with the course structure, academic expectations, and professional prospects associated with the MSW programme.

Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor of AMU, Chief Guest on the occasion reflected on her teaching career of over three decades, as well as her personal connection to the Department of Social Work, where she was a faculty member for three years during its early days. She emphasized the importance of self-reflection and encouraged students to make the most of their time at AMU by utilizing the available resources. She congratulated the students on joining one of the university’s most prestigious departments and inspired them to excel in social work, urging them to pursue their academic and professional goals with dedication.

Guest of Honour, Prof. Rafiuddin, Dean of Students’ Welfare, shared his thoughts on the evolving role of educators in the modern world. He congratulated the newly admitted students and encouraged them to actively engage in campus life, assuring them of his support in overcoming challenges.

Guest of Honour, Prof. M. Shafey Kidwai, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, discussed the shifting landscape of education, pointing out that knowledge is no longer solely provided by academic institutions. He stressed the transformative role of technology and artificial intelligence, urging students to think critically and see teachers as curators of knowledge. He also invoked the values of AMU’s founder, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, and quoted Ghalib: “Admi ko bhi mayassar nahi insaan hona” to emphasize the importance of compassion and moral values.

In his welcome address, Prof. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chairperson of the Department of Social Work, highlighted the department’s consistent growth and success in campus placements. He noted that the department secured the 7th position in the “Best Value for Money” category in the India Today MDRA Rankings 2024. Graduates from the department have secured positions in prominent organizations. He also mentioned the department’s active role in initiatives like Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and the AMU Village Adoption Programme.

Dr. Mohammad Tahir, Senior Faculty Member of the Department of Social Work delivered the vote of thanks, highlighting the critical role that students play in shaping society. Dr. Mohd Arif Khan, who conducted the proceedings, encouraged students to approach the MSW programme with passion and professionalism, setting out on this academic journey with enthusiasm and commitment.

The program was attended by Chairpersons and faculty members from other departments, Faculty members of the department Dr. Qurratul Aein Ali, Dr. Shyna Saif, Dr. Andleeb, Dr. Mohd Uzair and Dr. Sameera Khanam, and research scholars.
