Programme held to mark Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi at AMU

Aligarh : The commemorative function of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was held at the Kennedy Hall of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), where the speakers reiterated the significance of Seerah (prophetic teachings and way of life) and urged the community to follow the principles espoused by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in everyday life.

Speaking at the function, presided over by the AMU Vice Chancellor Professor Naima Khatoon, Maulana Syed Mohammad Gayasuddin, Founder and Rector, Darul-uloom Markaz-e-Islami, Prayagraj, said that Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (pbuh) was kind and affectionate towards the mankind. He has not only explained the rights of human beings, but has explained the rights of every object in the universe in detail and has told that the best human being is the one who serves humanity at large.

Maulana Gayasuddin said that seventy-five percent of the teachings of the Holy Quran are related to the rights of human beings and the life of Prophet Mohammad is a practical example of this. Addressing the students, he said “the love for Prophet Muhammad requires us to follow him, conduct our life at home, and outside like him, take care of neighbours and relatives and exhibit good moral character”.

The other guest speaker, Maulana Mohammad Mohsin, Principal, Wasiqa Arabic College, Faizabad said, the life of Prophet Muhammad is a role model for humanity. “Philosophers and sages of the world present theory first and practice later, while the Holy Prophet acted first and talked about principles later, owing to this, people became loyal to him. It is the need of the hour to apply these principles in our lives” he emphasised.

In her presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon said the ignorance and cruelty that existed in Arabia before the arrival of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) completely changed to kindness and gentleness, because the Prophet not only taught love for human beings, but also taught love and respect for animals and other inanimate creatures.

She emphasised that Prophet Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, defined the rights of women in every respect, giving them a high position of honour and dignity. It is necessary to apply these teachings in practical life, so that there is peace and order in the society, the country and the world. “This message is not only for Muslims but for the entire humanity”, Prof Khatoon added.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof. Towqueer Alam, Dean, Faculty of Theology said the real love for Prophet Muhammad is to follow him. Our character and actions should reflect his teachings.

The convenor of the programme, Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS, Registrar, AMU delivered a vote of thanks, while Prof. Mohammad Habibullah, Naazim-e-Deeniyat, and Chairman, Department of Theology conducted the proceedings.

Shawls were presented to both the guest speakers, and AMU students recited Naat in appreciation of the beloved Prophet.

Earlier, Prof. Naima Khatoon inaugurated a Seerat exhibition, consisting of seminal books and manuscripts related to the life of the Prophet, copies of the Quran including a copy inscribed by Hazrat Ali, the fourth caliph of Islam, artefacts and specimens of Islamic calligraphy, in the central hall of Maulana Azad Library, AMU.

The Vice Chancellor also inspected an exhibition of Islamic calligraphy organised in the lawns of Kennedy Hall, by K.A. Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, AMU.
