Special plantation drives and Swachhta Pakhwada campaign events held at AMU

Aligarh : A one-day special plantation drive was organised by the Department of Tahaffuzi wa Samaji Tib, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. The Chairperson, Prof. Rubi Anjum planted medicinal plants in the premises of the Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College.

Prof. Anjum highlighted the importance of such community-driven activities, especially in academic institutions, to foster a sense of ownership towards nature and the environment.

Faculty members including Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan, PG students, Interns and non-teaching staff were present on the occasion.

The Department of Geology observed Swachhata Pakhwada, wherein various cleanliness drives were undertaken in the classrooms, seminar library, audio visual hall, laboratories, museum, geological park, lawns, offices and other workplaces and open areas of the Department. Prof Rashid Umar, Chairman said that the Swachhata Audit Committee (SAC) members supervised these activities.

The cadets of 1/8 and 2/8 Company of 8 UP Battalion, NCC Unit, Aligarh Muslim University, presented a Nukkad Natak at JN Medical College, under the Swachhta Campaign, making people aware about cleanliness and prevention from insects that breed due to water logging etc.

The company commander, Captain Farooq Ahmad Dar, 1/8 Coy, AMU and Captain Najaf Ali Khan, 2/8 Coy AMU, Hav. Prem Kumar, Mr. Abdul Mannan, Mr. Ansar Ahmad Ansari, Cdt. Kuldeep Kumar (SUO), and Cdt. Mohd. Mustafa were present on occasion.

Meanwhile, the Department of Business Administration at AMU Kishanganj Centre, Bihar organized a two days event, themed as “Swabhav Swachhata- Sanskaar Swacchta”.

As part of the ongoing Swachhta Pakhwada, a mass awareness activity was conducted at Desh Ratna Public School, Kishanganj, with the aim of educating students on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene.

The session began with an introductory note on the Swachh Bharat Mission, highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a clean and healthy India.

The students were informed about the significance of maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings. They were also made aware of the harmful effects of polythene use, proper waste disposal methods and the importance of segregating dry and wet waste at home and neighborhood. Practical tips were also given to the students on how to incorporate hygienic practices into their daily lives.

Additionally, a plantation drive was organized at Sir Syed Park, which contributed to improving the park’s air quality, providing additional shade, and creating a habitat for local birds.

Under a mega cleanliness drive, water bodies were also cleaned. Students along with the staff removed all the waste and trash from the pond in the Sir Syed Park.
