World Alzheimer’s Day observed
ALIGARH : The Department of Psychiatry, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organised an educational programme to mark the World Alzheimer’s Day.
Dr. Mohammed Reyazuddin, Chairperson of the department emphasized the preventive strategies and early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. He said Alzheimer’s is one of the causes of dementia and we can only delay the onset of dementia.
A Senior Resident, Dr Akanksha spoke on the patho-physiology and prevention of dementia by adopting various strategies including regular aerobics, balanced diet, engaging in reading and writing and speaking multiple languages.
She further said that treatment of co-morbidities like HTN, T2 DM obesity can help in preventing Alzheimer’s from occurring early.

Meanwhile, an awareness programme was organized at the OPD block of the J.N. Medical College by the Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with the Nursing College.
Prof Farha Azmi, Principal, College of Nursing discussed Alzheimer’s conditions, which is the most common type of dementia. She stressed the need for adopting a positive approach towards people suffering from the disease and redressing the stigma and discrimination towards them with a friendly gesture.
The students of B.Sc. Nursing organised a psychiatric awareness programme highlighting the need to address the growing cases of dementia and educating people about the warning signs, symptoms, early diagnosis, preventive measures and treatment of this mental disorder.
Dr. Jitendra Kumar and Dr. Deoshree Akhouri shred their insight into the problem and its remedy.
