Three-day international conference on global climate change to begin at AMU on September 28

ALIGARH  : The Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University is organizing a three-day international conference on “Global Climate Change: Resilient Society and Sustainable Development” on September 28-30, 2024. The conference also marks the centenary celebration of the Department of Geography.

The Chairman of the department, Prof Nizamuddin informed that the conference aims at bringing to fore the critical and serious challenges, including climate change and global warming and its impact on society, economy, agriculture, ecology and biodiversity in contemporary world.

He said that the inaugural function of the conference will be held on September 28 at 10.30 am in Kennedy Auditorium. Dr. Prithvish Nag, former Director, NATMO, Calcutta, Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varansi, Rajshri Tondon Open University, Allahabad and Surveyor General of India will be the chief guest. Dr. M. Ravichndran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi will address the function as a keynote speaker, and Prof. Anindita Datta , Vice President, IGU and Chairperson, Department of Geography, Delhi School of Economics , University of Delhi and Prof. Vibhash Chandra Jha, Advisor (Academics and administration)  Central University of Orissa, Koraput, will share the dice as guests of honour.

He said that more than 250 delegates from different universities of the country and abroad are expected to participate and present papers in about 30 technical sessions of the conference.

He stated that two extra-ordinary sessions have been scheduled for memorial lectures on AMU’s eminent geographers, including E.W. Dawn, Prof. Muzaffar Ali, Prof. M. Shafi, Prof. Moonis Raza, Prof. Enayat Hussain, Prof. A.L. Singh, Prof. P. Dayal and Prof. S.M. Rafiullah.

The conference is being organized with the financial support from ICSSR, New Delhi, SERB DST, Ministry of Earth Science and Ministry of Water Resources, New Delhi, he added.
