VARANASI : Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has once again demonstrated its academic and research excellence, with 46 faculty members featured on Stanford University’s prestigious list of the top 2% of scientists worldwide. This esteemed global list recognizes the significant contributions of researchers across diverse fields and is compiled by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, categorizing scientists into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields.

The career-based list includes 46 BHU scientists (List Attached), while the single-year list features 51 faculty members. The career data is updated through the end of 2023, while the single-year citations reflect achievements from the calendar year 2023.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain said, “It is encouraging to note that 46 faculty members from BHU family have featured in the Stanford list of top scientists. This reflects the world class research ecosystem and extraordinary research talent at BHU. I strongly believe that BHU has great potential to be counted amongst the leading research universities of the world. Heartiest congratulations to all the scientists who have made it to the list.”

Prof. Shyam Sunder, Institute of Medical Sciences, stated, “I am very pleased with the Stanford University ranking me at the highest rank amongst BHU scientists, I have also been ranked number one in Tropical Medicine in India and sixth in the world. It is a great honour for me and for my University. It provides me with a great incentive to work harder and bring more laurels for my Alma mater.”

Prof. Rajeev Pratab Singh from the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development said, “Besides other parameters the list is also based on H index and citations, hence, constantly being in the list acknowledges our research on waste management and ecotoxicology by the scientific community worldwide in the field of environmental science.”

The list is based on comprehensive metrics, including citation counts and H-index, reflecting the impact and quality of a scientist’s work. It highlights leading researchers across various scientific fields, offering international recognition for their contributions.
