IIT Bhubaneswar takes up a series of initiatives as part of Swachhata hi Seva Campaign

 

Bhubaneswar : Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has joined the nation in the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign and has taken up a series of initiatives in line with the theme of the year ‘Swabhab Swachhata-Sanskaar Swachhata’.

It may be mentioned that this year, the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign as part of the Swachha Bharat Mission has started from 17th September 2024 and will continue up to 1st October 2024. As part of this fortnight-long campaign, IIT Bhubaneswar, reiterating its commitment towards cleanliness, has organised several programmes and taken up different new initiatives.

With an objective to protect and preserve the environment for the future, IIT Bhubaneswar has initiated a campaign to stop using single-use plastic, including single-use plastic bottles in its campus. As part of the Swachha Bharat Mission, the Institute has also formed a Solid Waste Management Committee oversee the solid waste management efforts and will soon propose sustainable treatment options of waste within the campus. The Committee has plans to implement Waste Segregation by Residents, Hostel Waste Segregation and School Waste Segregation across the campus premises.

Besides, the Institute has organised different programmes to ensure cleanliness of the campus and its surroundings and spread awareness on Swachhata among the members of the Institute. The housekeeping staff of IIT Bhubaneswar have conducted mass cleanliness drive in the campus premises during the period. They also cleaned the pond in Kansapada, an adopted village of the Institute. The Horticulture Team of the Institute cleaned the park of Podapada Primary School, situated in another adopted village of IIT Bhubaneswar as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.

The Institute also conducted health check-ups & distributed masks & gloves to Housekeeping Staff in SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivirs during the period to ensure the health and wellbeing of the members who are working towards the cleanliness of the campus and its surroundings.

IIT Bhubaneswar also organised several programmes including administration of Swachhata Pledge to the members of the Institute. The students also participated in thematic painting competitions and quiz competitions as part of the awareness drive. The students and NSS volunteers of the Institute are also taking part in these activities with much enthusiasm.
