University of South Africa Launches First Alumni Event in Angola

The Unisa Alumni Relations division recently hosted an alumni event at the InterContinental Luanda Miramar, Angola. This inaugural gathering was designed as an intimate affair to foster meaningful conversations and strengthen connections with alumni while enhancing the Unisa brand in the country.

The alumni event had a dual focus to reconnect alumni in Angola with their alma mater and to facilitate professional networking. Unisa currently has more than 130 alumni in the country, many of whom have completed postgraduate qualifications. This first visit by the Alumni Relations Division also investigated establishing a chapter.

The Unisa Alumni Relations Division hosted its first alumni gathering at the InterContinental Luanda Miramar, aiming to deepen ties with alumni in Angola.

The intimate group of alumni at the event had the opportunity to view the university’s corporate video and was introduced to the catalytic niche areas. Furthermore, the Alumni Relations representative provided attendees with information, including the platform for alumni to forge professional networks and collaborate in business and community engagement.

Ezekiel Cahombo, an attendee of the networking event and a proud alumnus of both Unisa and the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) — a Unisa-hosted youth programme dedicated to empowering future African leaders — shared his unique experiences. He recounted his journey of studying with Unisa online and the valuable opportunity to visit the Midrand Campus through the YALI programme. He encouraged his fellow alumni to actively contribute to Unisa’s efforts to establish a chapter in Angola.

Some of the alumni present travelled as far as  200 kilometres to attend the event and get the opportunity to network with fellow graduates. This highlights the dedication and tenacity of Unisa alumni and the need for more engagements.

Many of the alumni indicated their interest in getting involved and donating to the university’s many causes. Alumni congratulated the university on its 150th anniversary and expressed a strong desire for more networking events to be organised.
