University of the Free State Contributes to Change at the 2024 FISU World Forum
Jerry Laka, President of University Sport South Africa (USSA) and Director of KovsieSport at the University of the Free State (UFS), and Tumisang Motsoane, a member of the USSA National Executive Committee (NEC), travelled to Zagreb, Croatia, to participate in the 2024 International University Sports Federation (FISU) World Forum.
This significant event brought together students, university sports officials, and industry professionals from around the globe to engage in discussions aimed at promoting the development of university sports and physical activity.
Attending the FISU World Forum was a privilege that offered an invaluable opportunity for international dialogue on university sports development. Participants shared insights, strategies, and best practices to enhance student engagement in physical activities and sports.
During their time in Croatia, Laka and Motsoane proudly represented South Africa by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Croatian Academic Sports Federation. This agreement signifies a commitment to collaborate on various initiatives to advance student sports development.
The MoU was celebrated as a major milestone for both organisations, aiming to foster trust and cooperation in the spirit of friendly sportsmanship.
“This agreement marks a key step in strengthening collaboration and advancing student sports development between our two nations,” said Laka.
Motsoane emphasised the importance of the MoU, stating, “The MoU marks a significant step forward in promoting mutual growth, learning, and cooperation in the university sports environment, underpinned by trust, sportsmanship, and a shared commitment to excellence.”
This partnership not only reflects the dedication of USSA and the Croatian Academic Sports Federation to enhance student sports, but also sets the stage for future collaborations that will benefit athletes and institutions in both countries.
