University of East London-ACE Courses Rise in Guardian University Rankings

The School of Architecture, Engineering and Computing (ACE) at the University of East London (UEL) continues its upward trajectory in the prestigious Guardian University Guide , with its courses earning top spots both in London and across the UK.

Programs in Computer Science and Digital Technologies, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, and Fine Art have all made notable gains, underscoring ACE’s commitment to academic excellence.

Professor David Tann, Vice Provost of Technology and Dean of School, welcomed the results. He said,

These are outstanding accomplishments that reflect the incredible dedication, hard work, and passion of our talented students and alumni, our exceptional staff, and every member of our university community.”

UEL has climbed 40 places to 56th nationally and ninth in London, making it the highest ranked, most improved university in the UK. The University also placed in the top 30 nationally for “satisfaction with assessment”, “satisfaction with teaching” and “value added”, further affirming its commitment to student success.

Computer science and digital technologies courses ranked first nationally for “satisfaction with feedback”, with a 92% approval rate. The courses also ranked first in London and second nationally for “satisfaction with teaching”.

Civil engineering courses ranked first in London and second nationally for both “satisfaction with teaching” and “satisfaction with feedback”, with scores of 92.3% and 88.1%, respectively.

Mechanical engineering ranked first in London and eight nationally overall, with a standout fourth nationally for “satisfaction with feedback”.

Mechanical Engineering student Ehichioya Sunday Anakali, commented on the support from academics on the course. He said, “Dr Hassan Baig was very helpful, he is the best supervisor. He provided me with feedback on how to carry out my research project.”

Architecture and design courses have also performed well in London and UK. Architecture ranked second in London and 12th nationally, including specialities in Architectural Design Technology. Interior design ranked fourth nationally and second in London, while Graphic design ranked third in London and 16th nationally and. Fine art ranked seventh nationally and second in London.

MA in Architecture and Urbanism Sagarita Bhattacharjeesahred her positive experience, saying, “The biggest enjoyment for me is to learn. At UEL we had a hands-on experience, real-life application projects for architecture and we have experimented with materials and techniques such as digital fabrications”.
