Hyderabad  – The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) successfully hosted the 2nd edition of the Urban Infrastructure Summit at HICC Novotel, Hyderabad, focusing on “Urban Strategies, Policy, and Regulation.” The summit served as a platform for key stakeholders to deliberate on strategies, innovations, and policies shaping India’s urban infrastructure landscape. With a special focus on Hyderabad’s urban transformation journey, the event highlighted the city’s alignment with broader sustainable urbanization efforts across India.

In the inaugural session, Sri Komati Reddy Venkat Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Roads & Buildings and Cinematography, Government of Telangana, underscored the vital role of connectivity in urban development. He stated, “Efficient transportation networks are the arteries of our urban centres.” The Minister emphasized that significant investments will be made to expand metro rail systems, improve road networks, and modernize public transportation. Furthermore, he emphasized that urban infrastructure goes beyond roads and transport. Essential services such as clean water, reliable electricity, and efficient waste management are key components of infrastructure development in Telangana, reflecting a commitment to human dignity and quality of life.

The Minister also highlighted Telangana’s ambitious initiatives, including improvements in municipal solid waste management and the construction of several Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). The state has embarked on providing enhanced household services like water supply connections and promoting greenery in urban areas. He emphasized that Telangana’s urban landscape has seen significant transformation, making it a model of growth for India.

The summit also featured discussions on Telangana’s newly launched ‘SPEED’ initiative, led by Hon’ble Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy, which aims to complete 19 major projects. These include the Musi Riverfront development, modeled after the Thames River project, expansion of satellite towns, new airports, and metro rail extensions. The initiative, which has allocated ₹10,000 crore for Hyderabad’s development, aims to elevate the city to one of the world’s most livable urban centers.

Mr. Suresh Chukkapalli, Founder Chairman of Phoenix Group and Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea stressed the importance of urban centers as engines of economic growth. Dr. Poonam Kashyap, Vice Chancellor of ALARD University, Pune, delivered a comprehensive analysis of the drivers of rapid urbanization in India.
