UrFU Completes Preparations for Academic Year: Infrastructure Improvements Highlighted

The first meeting of the Academic Council of UrFU this academic year discussed the results of preparing the university infrastructure for the new academic year. Albert Sharafutdinov, Deputy Vice-Rector for General Affairs, gave a report. The details are presented in the latest issue of the Ural Federal Newspaper (No. 15, September 30).

All the services of the Vice-Rector for General Affairs participated in the preparations for the new academic year: the Department for the Maintenance of the Real Estate Complex carried out cosmetic repairs and organized the general cleaning of the academic buildings, cleaned, disinfected, and carried out deratization of the dormitories. The Department of Material and Technical Support, the Department of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations, the Department of Security, and the Department of Sanitation and Epidemiology worked actively to prepare the infrastructure and areas of the University for the new academic year. The Catering Company cleaned the canteens and made cosmetic repairs.

The lighting system was revised – employees replaced lamps in the university auditorium. Repairs of electric switchboards of buildings at 3 Kominterna St. and 16 Chapaeva St., as well as dormitories, were organized. To meet the fire safety requirements of the fire inspectorate, the lighting of the attics was repaired. The total amount of work carried out during the summer was 14.7 million rubles.

Sanitary equipment was checked. At present the heating stations of educational and student buildings are fully prepared for the heating season.

In addition, partial repairs were made to the roof of the 8th training building at 5 Kovalevskaya St., repairs were made in the Military Training Center: bathrooms, partial training building, gymnasium, changing rooms, and emergency exits. Current repairs of doctors’ offices were carried out and windows in the medical unit were completely replaced.

In the school building in Kuybysheva, the corridor and laboratories were reconstructed. In the building at 51 Lenina St., the gym in the basement was repaired. According to the deputy vice-rector, this room has not been repaired for 18 years. There, in the basement of the building at 51 Lenina St., comfortable classrooms were installed instead of the rooms that had been empty for a long time.

The corridor of the third school building (Mira St., 28) was repaired: last year the water pipe was repaired, and this year the room was cleaned. On the eighth floor of the building in S. Kovalevskaya St., 5, the elevator hall and the corridor were repaired. The classroom T-316 was also cleaned. This year the reconstruction of the classroom Ft-411 was completed – it was put into operation and is ready to receive students.

Reconstruction of the former gymnasium in 48 Kuibysheva str. was finished.

“The area of these premises was about 300 square meters. After the renovation, we received two educational space floors: five classrooms with 116 seats, two co-working rooms, and a place for negotiations. Now the equipment has been installed, a platform has been installed to ensure the accessibility of the premises for students with disabilities”, Sharafutdinov explained.

Answering the question about the passage between Inzhek and Phystech, the Vice-Rector said that the University had received all the permits in the summer and the contractors had started to repair the passage. On September 16, a part of the slab along the wall of Phystech was poured. According to Albert Sharafutdinov, now the works are being carried out between the buildings, and it is hoped that the passage will be operational again this academic year.
