Counselling programme held for the female students with disability
ALIGARH : The Disability Unit (Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies), Aligarh Muslim University organized a counselling programme for the (PwD) students of the Women’s College, AMU to sensitize such students about their rights and various provisions of the RPwD Act 2016, which has already been adopted by AMU.
Prof. Manvendra Kumar Pundhir, Coordinator, Disability Unit said that the Unit has decided to organize a series of counselling programmes in the university schools to create awareness amongst the persons with disability (PwD) about the various schemes of the Government of India for their benefit and help them achieve greater successes in their academic pursuits.
He said that the counselling programme at the Women’s College was the first such programme under this series.
The Principal, Women’s College, Prof. Masud Anwar Alavi, Dr. Fazila Shahnawaz, Deputy Coordinator, Dr. Shagufta Niyaz, Counsellor/ Placement Officer participated in the programme and interacted with the PwD students studying in different courses in the Women’s College. They also discussed their problems and assured them to help them find out a solution.
Several volunteers attended the programme and discussed various issues faced by students with disabilities.
Prof Pundhir distributed certificates to the volunteers and appreciated their role and contribution to improving the lives of their fellows.
Ms Shivani Saraswat, Eshaana and Priya played an important role in the successful organization of the programme.
