Open District Tournament held at Women’s College, AMU

Aligarh : An Open District Tournament for girls was held at Women’s College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to mark Sir Syed Day celebrations, acknowledging the undisputed legacy of the founder of AMU, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.

The event had 11 teams for the basketball tournament and 7 teams for the volleyball tournament from various schools and colleges of Aligarh.

In the basketball final, the AMU team led by Aafreen Naim defeated the team of the Senior Secondary School Girls, led by Aasth by 25-15 and 25-17.

In the volleyball final, the Women’s College B team defeated St. Fidelis School, Tala Nagari by 49-30.

Prof. S. Amjad Ali Rizwi, Secretary, Games Committee, AMU attended the event as chief guest, while Prof. Zamirulla Khan, President, Athletic Club, Prof. Masud Anwar Alavi, Principal, Women’s College and Prof. Shaukat Haseen, Provost, IG Hall were present as guests of honour.

Prof. Alavi and other speakers encouraged the players and exhorted them to work hard to excel in life.

The tournament officials including Zakir Raza, Sardar hussain, Divya, Vikas, Nida Usmani, Azeeza Rizvi, Aarfeen Bano, Faheem, Jatin, Umesh, and Shoeb helped in proper conduct of the matches.

Prof. Nazura Usmani from Women’s College distributed moments to the winner and runner up team members and the coaches and managers.

Dr. Nazia Khan, Assistant Director, Physical Education Section, Women’s College proposed a vote of thanks.

The programme was hosted by Ansharah Kaiyoom and Mehak Jaan.

Ms. Mehwish Khan from Abdullah Hall and Mohd Kamran Khan and Afshan Obaid from Senior Secondary School coordinated the event.
