White Coat Ceremony held for newly admitted MBBS and BDS students 

ALIGARH: The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University jointly organized the White Coat Ceremony for the newly admitted MBBS and BDS students.

Addressing the occasion, the chief guest, AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon said that the medical profession is one of the most revered professions in the world and it brings the responsibility on a doctor to treat their patients with profound care and sympathy.

She said that even today the number of doctors in the country is less in proportion to the population and the lack of resources for basic equipments in health facilities further aggravates the situation. In this scenario, it is a matter of pride for us that we have a good number of MBBS and BDS seats in our university and we are entrusted with the responsibility to produce good doctors, she added.

She hoped that AMU medical professionals will serve the patients with utmost care and dedication and bring laurels to the J.N. Medical College and the university.

The guest of honour, Dr. B. Srinivas, Secretary, National Medical Commission, New Delhi, Director General Medical Education, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, stated that the medical profession is perhaps the most sought after profession in the country and the number of students appearing for the medical entrance is growing manifold every year.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal and CMS, JNMC, said that white coat is a symbol of respect and the medical students need to behave with their patient with utmost politeness and affection, while maintaining personal dignity. She said patients come to the hospital in pain and the affectionate behaviour and soft language of a doctors helps reduce their pain faster, with proper treatment.

She stressed that JNMC is one of the busiest hospitals in the country and every year lakhs of patients come to it for treatment.

She also conducted the traditional Hippocratic Oath for dedicated and selfless treatment of patients.

Prof RK Tiwari, Principal, Dr ZA Dental College urged the students to work hard and be strong to bear the great responsibility to serve the patients who will need their attention even in odd hours all through their lives.

The handbooks for the MBBS and BDS, edited by Dr   Sufia Naseem were released by the guests.

Prof Seema Hakim, Coordinator, Medical Education Unit highlighted the programmes organized by the unit.

Dr. Bushra Siddiqui and Dr. Ruhi Khan conducted the programme, while Dr Ruhi Khan extended a vote of thanks.
