Nanjing University Hosts 7th Annual Faculty and Staff Swimming Competition
On the afternoon of October 12, the 7th Faculty and Staff Swimming Competition of our university was held at the swimming pool of Xianlin Campus. The competition was hosted by the University Labor Union, organized by the Sports Department, and co-organized by the Logistics Service Group. More than 60 swimming enthusiasts from 17 branch labor unions participated in the competition. Zhou Zhihua, Vice President of Nanjing University, announced the start of the competition and participated in the competition as an athlete.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Tang Shaoqiu, the president of the school labor union, said that swimming competitions are not only a contest of competitions, but also a platform to showcase personal style and sportsmanship. He hoped that this competition would be an opportunity to further stimulate the sports enthusiasm of the faculty and staff and promote the development of national fitness. He also hoped that the faculty and staff would transform the sports competitive spirit of tenacious struggle, unity and cooperation in the competition into a motivation for dedication and hard work, and contribute to the high-quality development of various undertakings of the school. The chief referee of this competition, Mr. Li Haijun, a national swimming referee, introduced the rules and precautions of the competition.
With a whistle, the competition officially began. In the rippling swimming pool, the athletes shuttled like flying fish, cutting through the waves, and “swimming” forward, staging a series of exciting duels of “water” and “who else but me”. In the team relay race, the faculty and staff went all out and worked together, fully demonstrating the spirit of unity and positive progress of Nanjing University.
After fierce competition, Gao Yuan and Han Juanjuan won the men’s and women’s 50-meter freestyle championships, Jiao Yiding and Fan Mei won the men’s and women’s 50-meter breaststroke championships, Gao Yuan and Han Juanjuan won the men’s and women’s 100-meter freestyle championships, Huang Shujian and Yang Yi won the men’s and women’s 100-meter breaststroke championships. The representative team of the Office, the representative team of the School of Electronic Science, and the first team of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering won the top three places in the mixed men’s and women’s relay race. Zhuang Jing, vice chairman of the school union, presented awards to the winning athletes.
It is reported that swimming is known as the “king of sports”. It can exercise muscles, strengthen physical fitness, relieve stress and cheer up. It is a very good fitness exercise for faculty and staff who work at desks for a long time. The school union will promote the establishment of a faculty and staff swimming association to further promote the popularization and development of swimming in our school and enhance cohesion and sense of belonging.
