Nanjing University Celebrates 2024 Double Ninth Festival with Festive Celebration Party
October 11 is the Double Ninth Festival, which is also the 12th National Senior Citizens’ Day. Nanjing University held the 2024 Double Ninth Festival Birthday Party at the Gulou Campus to send blessings to the retired faculty and staff who are 70, 80, 90, 100 and above this year. More than 100 retired faculty and staff representatives gathered together to celebrate the festival. Yang Zhong, executive deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the University and director of the Working Committee for the Elderly, attended and spoke.
On behalf of the university, Yang Zhong wished all the old leaders, seniors and comrades a happy holiday, and expressed his high respect and sincere gratitude for their long-term contributions to the development of Nanjing University. He introduced the university’s development in recent years, its achievements and future plans, and pointed out that under the guidance of the implementation plan of the “Action forge ahead”, Nanjing University is moving towards the goal of becoming a world-class university.
“Without you, there would be no NDU today.” Yang Zhong emphasized that the continuous growth and progress of the university is inseparable from the hard work, care and support of the old comrades. The school party committee will continue to provide assistance as always and spare no effort. We look forward to everyone’s continued care and support for the development of NDU, and to making new and greater contributions to the comprehensive promotion of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese-style modernization. We also hope that everyone will stay young, keep up with the times in the study of ideological and political theories, keep working hard to keep up with the times in the fields they like, keep up with the times in learning, exercising, and maintaining a healthy mentality, and spend a happy and happy old age.
Chen Wei, the new chairman of the school’s Retirement Association, wished all the old comrades a happy holiday on behalf of the association. He introduced the specific measures taken by the Retirement Association and the Retirement Office in helping the elderly and organizing cultural and sports activities, and said that it is the association’s unshirkable responsibility to care about the physical health and spiritual life of the retired faculty and staff of the school. He hoped that all teachers would support the work of the association and wish everyone happiness as vast as the East Sea, longevity as great as the Southern Mountains, family happiness, and all the best.
The birthday celebrants, Professor Xu Weiwei of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, reviewed her entrepreneurial history of more than 40 years and expressed her gratitude to the university for its long-term care and help to the old comrades. She said that after retirement, she can still feel the hard work, caring and heartfelt care of the old comrades at all times. I wish Nanjing University will never stop on the road of progress, and all the old comrades will be healthy and happy, and continue to contribute “silver hair power” to promote China’s modernization.
Wu Heng, director of the Retirement Affairs Office, hosted the birthday celebration and gave an introduction. Our school currently has 3,065 retired faculty and staff. This year, there are 223 retired faculty and staff who are 70, 80, 90, 100 years old or above, including 83 at the age of 70, 65 at the age of 80, 71 at the age of 90, 1 at the age of 100, and 2 at the age of 101. The oldest is Sun Da, a teacher from the School of Geography and Oceanography, who is 102 years old.
At the birthday celebration party, Yang Zhong and other leaders present presented Double Ninth Festival gifts to the old comrades present and took photos with everyone.
Min Tiejun, the executive deputy director of the school’s Working Committee on the Retired, and a former leader, as well as all members of the new Retired Association team, and responsible comrades from the Retirement Office and other relevant units attended the event. In addition, there were nearly 20 student volunteers, doctors from the school hospital, and comrades from the Security Department to provide support for the birthday celebration.
