Empowering Communities: Two-Day Regional Community Radio Sammelan set to Ignite Jaipur on October 24-25, 2024

New Delhi  :  A two-day Regional Community Radio Sammelan is set to be organized for community radio stations operating across West-India states on October 24th-25th, 2024. This event is being held by Indian Institute of Mass Communication in collaboration with the Community Radio Cell, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), at Jaipur, Rajasthan. The theme for this year’s Sammelan is ‘Celebrating 20 years of Community Radio in India.’

Prof. Sangeeta Pranvendra, Head, CRS, Indian Institute of Mass Communication said that Regional Community Radio Sammelans were introduced by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in the financial year 2012-13, following a strong desire expressed by Community Radio Stations at the National Community Radio Sammelan. These Regional Sammelans provides a platform for operational Community Radio Stations (CRS) to share their grassroots stories, successes, challenges, and good practices.

The Sammelan will cover topics such as policy updates, CRS initiatives, ethical practices, preservation of indigenous languages, role of CRS in the digital era, and gender inclusion in operations and programming.

The Regional Community Radio Sammelan aims to unite operators for knowledge sharing, exchange of experiences, and promotion of good practices. It seeks to strengthen ownership among volunteers, build peer networks, address grassroots needs, and encourage women’s participation for gender parity. This event offers an excellent opportunity for operators, volunteers, and stakeholders to engage, collaborate, and recognize efforts in empowering communities through innovative programming.
