KIIT Group of Colleges conducts awareness workshop on women safety
Gurugram: KIIT Group of Colleges, Gurugram organized a workshop on women safety with the objective to make students and faculty aware about the legal rights of the women, practical safety measures and empowerment.
The event’s Keynote speakers were Mrs Sangeeta Das, Sr Academician and Brand Ambassador of Women Safety and Empowerment by Gurugram Police. She provided information on various aspects of women’s safety in detail. Further, Mr Mohit Sharma, Chief Warden, Civil Defence Gurugram addressed the topic of civil safety and practical safety steps. Important information was shared by SHO of Mahila Thana (South), Gurugram about legal framework and police role in ensuring safety for women.
The event proved a platform for collective deliberation of students and faculty of KIIT Group of Colleges on legal rights and practical safety measures for women.
The workshop elaborated further “10 important legal rights of women” which are the groundwork of women’s empowerment. They include: free legal aid, right to register an FIR, demand for privacy while giving statement, prohibition of arrest after sunset, and protection of identity.
The practical demonstrations were also conducted in the workshop where women learned to take safety measures in case there is a threat. Some of the issues discussed included self-awareness, training, and use of technology for purposes of women’s safety among others.
Such workshops keep making women aware and confident of their rights and safety. Our aim is to make our students self-reliant and empowered so that they can face any kind of challenge, said Dr Neelima Kamarah, Registrar, KIIT Group of Colleges while inaugurating the workshop.
