Central University of Kerala celebrates Birsa Munda Jayanti
Kasaragod: The Central University of Kerala commemorated the birth anniversary of freedom fighter and tribal leader Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The event was marked by a floral tribute at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhawan, led by Vice Chancellor (i/c) Prof. Vincent Mathew.
In his address, Prof. Mathew highlighted the significant and unparalleled struggle waged by tribal groups for India’s independence, stressing that these contributions often remain underrepresented in public discourse. He emphasized the importance of passing on this vital history to the new generation.
The ceremony was attended by Registrar (i/c) Prof. Rajendra Pilankatta, Controller of Examinations Dr. R. Jayaprakash, faculty, students, and staff. Following the tribute, saplings were planted on campus as a gesture of environmental responsibility, led by the Vice Chancellor.
As part of the ongoing observance of Tribal Pride Day, in memory of the tribal freedom fighters, the Central University of Kerala is organizing several initiatives. A medical camp will be held on Saturday, and awards will be presented to Scheduled Caste students excelling in their studies at a special event at the university.
