Tribal Traditions Take Center Stage on Day 2 of AADI Gaurav Mahotsav 2024

Dehradun : The second day of the AADI Gaurav Mahotsav 2024 was a vibrant celebration of Uttarakhand’s tribal heritage, showcasing the rich traditions, artistry, and flavors of tribal communities. Held at ONGC Stadium, the second day of the Mahotsav saw enthusiastic participation from visitors and tribal artisans alike. MLA Rajpur, Khajan Dass honored the occasion as the chief guest, praising the efforts to bring tribal culture to the forefront.

Organized by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) Uttarakhand, the three-day-long festival features exhibitions open from 11 AM to 10 PM, offering a glimpse into the world of tribal art, crafts, and traditions. Day 2 was marked by dynamic performances from the Uttarakhand Tribal Cultural Group and artists from other states, who brought the stage alive with their energy and artistry.

The Mahotsav also features an exhibition open to the public. Items on display ranged from handcrafted clothing and wooden artifacts to home décor and pahadi millets.

The second day concluded with a cultural lineup including performances by tribal groups representing the Jaunsari, Bhotia, Buxa, Tharu, and Raji communities, enthralling the audience with their vibrant costumes, rhythmic dances, and soulful music.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Khajan Dass remarked, “AADI Gaurav Mahotsav is a tribute to the invaluable cultural heritage of our tribal communities. Events like these not only preserve these traditions but also offer a platform for artists to shine and share their talent with the world.”

The evening’s star attraction was a soulful musical performance by celebrated folk singer Maya Upadhyay, whose melodies filled the air with nostalgia and pride. Joining her on stage were renowned artists Naresh Badshah and Vivek Nautiyal, whose captivating performances left the audience spellbound.

Visitors, both local and from other regions, expressed their delight in being part of the festival. Neha Singh, a college student attending the event, said, “The performances and the crafts here are mesmerizing. It’s amazing to see so much talent and tradition being celebrated.”

S S Tolia, the Director of TRI Uttarakhand, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, saying, “AADI Gaurav Mahotsav is more than just an event; it is a celebration of our tribal communities’ vibrant heritage. The enthusiasm of the performers and the visitors alike reflects the success of this endeavor.”

The festival also saw the presence of other dignitaries, including TRI Uttarakhand Coordinator Rajeev Kumar Solanki, Additional Director Yogendra Rawat, and Secretary of Social Welfare Neeraj Kherwal, who reaffirmed the state’s commitment to preserving tribal culture.

As the festival approaches its final day on 17th November, visitors can look forward to spectacular performances by renowned folk singers Kishan Mahipal and Sunny Dayal.
