Aligarh : The Constitution Day was celebrated at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with great solemnity.

The Department of Psychology organised a lecture by Professor Mohammad Aftab Alam from the Department of Political Science, who shared his insights on the origins and significance of the Constitution, bridging the fields of Political Science and Psychology.

Professor Alam emphasised the importance of citizens’ fundamental rights, the directive principles of state policy, and the Constitution’s role in resolving state disputes. He also covered the Constitution’s detailed inclusions, such as the official language (Article 393) and the Supreme Court’s authority derived from constitutional law.

Professor Alam outlined three approaches to interpreting the Constitution: as a living document, a transformational guide, and an evolving framework. He encouraged students to expand their understanding by studying foundational texts, such as India’s Living Constitution (2004), Indian Constitution at Work by Yogendra Yadav, and An Introduction to the Indian Constitution by D.D. Basu, noting the relevance of the Constitution in exams like the UPSC.

In his welcome address, Prof Shah Alam, Chairman, Department of Psychology highlighted the importance of the Constitution Day, while Dr. Sarah Javed, the event coordinator, opened the session with her introductory remarks.

The session concluded with a pledge to honour the Constitution.

The Department of Linguistics, celebrated the day with the reading out of the Preamble of Constitution by the Chairman, Prof. Mohammad Jahangeer Warsi.

The faculty members, students and non-teaching staff members of the Department repeated it and resolved to secure justice, liberty and equality to all the citizens of the country and promote fraternity among them.
