ARCH College of Design and Business hosts workshop with experts from Manchester Metropolitan University
Jaipur: ARCH College of Design and Business, in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University’s Manchester Fashion Institute (MFI), recently organized an innovative pattern design workshop for its students. Held on campus, the workshop introduced participants to creative design techniques inspired by the game of Sudoku, offering fresh perspectives on global textile design trends.
The workshop was led by Rachel Kelly, an expert in design education and innovative wall-covering techniques. Kelly shared insights into modern global design approaches and expressed her admiration for traditional Indian patterns. She remarked, “The hands-on skills of Arch students are always inspiring, and our collaboration over the years has consistently fostered creativity and innovation.”
During the workshop, students were challenged to transform Sudoku-inspired designs into intricate textile patterns using innovative materials. The activity allowed participants from various design streams—fashion, interior, communication, and jewelry design—to explore how complex patterns can be simplified and made visually appealing.
Founder and Director of Arch College of Design and Business, Archana Surana, emphasized the significance of such partnerships. She noted, “Our collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University aims to equip students with international exposure and technical expertise. This workshop is a step toward fostering global innovation and creativity in design education. Through our International Degree Program, many students complete their studies at MMU after spending two years at ARCH. These initiatives provide them with invaluable global opportunities.”
The longstanding partnership between ARCH and Manchester Metropolitan University has resulted in numerous successful classroom projects. These projects have not only showcased students’ creativity but have also highlighted local crafts and culture on a global stage.
