Guest lecture held on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

ALIGARH  : The Department of Psychiatry, J.N. Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University hosted a guest lecture on “Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)” by Prof. Robin Edward Gearing, a renowned academic from the University of Houston, USA.

Prof. Gearing, an expert in the field of psychotherapy and mental health research, provided an insightful overview of DBT, its theoretical foundations and practical applications. This evidence-based therapeutic approach, originally developed for individuals with borderline personality disorder, has gained widespread recognition for its efficacy in treating a variety of mental health challenges.

He emphasized the importance of tailoring therapeutic approaches to individual patient needs and highlighted the role of DBT in fostering emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. He also shared his experiences from diverse clinical and research settings, inspiring participants to adopt innovative strategies in mental healthcare.

Senior faculty members, postgraduate students and mental health professionals engaged in a discussion with Prof. Gearing on the nuances of DBT and its integration into clinical practice.
