Department of Education organises Conference on Teacher Education in the 21st Century
Aligarh : The academics and experts explored the challenges and opportunities in teacher education, particularly in the context of global and national educational reforms, at the two days International Conference on Teacher Education in the 21st Century (ICTE-2024), organised by the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in hybrid mode.
During the inaugural session, Prof. K Ramachandran, Consultant and Chairman of the ITEP Core Committee, NCTE, New Delhi, emphasised the importance of incorporating problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and experiential learning approaches into the teaching-learning process. He congratulated AMU for introducing the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in the Department of Education.
The chief guest, Prof. Javed Musarrat, Vice Chancellor, Integral University, Lucknow deliberated on the benefits and challenges of integrating Artificial Intelligence in education.
Discussing the current status of higher education in India, the special guest Prof. P.K. Dashora, Vice Chancellor of Mangalayatan University reiterated the need to increase the GDP share in education for effectively implementing the suggestions of NEP-2020.
In his virtual address, Dr. Ismail Hussein Amzat, from the International Islamic University, Malaysia, shared insights on the teachers’ professional development and the status of teacher education in Malaysia.
Prof. M. Shafey Kidwai, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, AMU, stressed the need of effective curriculum transactional approaches and strengthening teacher education.
Earlier, the Director of the conference and Chairperson of the Department Prof. Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui welcomed the guests and delegates and introduced the theme of the conference.
Prof. Mohd Abid Siddiqui, the Convenor, read the concept note of the conference, while Prof. Gunjan Dubey proposed a vote of thanks.
In the valedictory session, the chief guest, Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, Department of West Asian and North African Studies, AMU remarked that this kind of conference is the need of the time to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
Prof. Ahrar Hussain, former Dean, Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, emphasised the need for redesigning teacher education in the light of NEP 2020 and incorporating innovative pedagogical approaches for Education 4.0.
Prof. Rafiuddin, Dean, Students’ Welfare highlighted the importance of training teachers at the higher education level to enhance the quality of education.
Prof. Mohd Abid Siddiqui presented the conference report while Prof. Gunjan Dubey concluded the session with the vote of thanks.
Notably, faculty members, research scholars, and postgraduate students from 39 Indian universities from Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal presented over 138 research papers on five pivotal themes in the conference.
