To curb the COVID-19 Pandemic AMU decided not to hold the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in any mosque under university’s control

Aligarh: To curb the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Nazim-e-Deeniyat (Theology), Aligarh Muslim University has decided not to hold the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in any mosque under university’s control, including the Jama Masjid.

Prof Mohammad Saleem, Nazim-e-Deeniyat, said that individuals can offer Namaz-e-Chasht at their homes, while maintaining social distancing according to the advisory issued by the public health authorities. He said Eid-ul-Fitr prayers are not compulsory and in a situation created by a health threat, people can perform alternative prayers prescribed in Islamic principles.

He however, urged the people to pay the obligatory Fitra before performing Eid prayers.

The traditional celebration, Eid Milan at Vice Chancellor’s residence on this occasion will not be held this year due to COVID-19.

Since the Vice-Chancellor will not host students on Eid, he has sanctioned funds to the Halls of residence for preparing special meals for the students who are still on the campus.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor has conveyed warm wishes to all members of AMU faculty, alumni, students and citizens of the country on this occasion and urged them to make contributions to help the economically weaker section of society. He also urged all concerned to follow the guidelines issued by the public health authorities and help them in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
