Aligarh Muslim University Life Science Faculty gets first rank

Aligarh : The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) achieved a rare academic distinction in its centenary year as its Life Science Faculty has got the first rank by the Times Higher Education Ranking 2020, a reputed international agency for surveying the performance of institutions of higher learning.

The Faculty of Life sciences got a score of 71.8 in citation category and it leads the rankings for Life Science Faculties ahead of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), University of Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Anamalai University among others. The university has also been ranked above several premier Indian technology institutes with only exception of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Terming it well-timed as the university celebrates its centenary this year (1920-2020) Professor Tariq Mansoor, Vice Chancellor Congratulated the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Chairpersons of various departments and other faculty members, and said that it is a proud moment which owes much to the sustained efforts of teachers leading to quality research papers being published.

“The remarkable success has brought pride to the entire university fraternity”, said Prof Mansoor, and stated that it is due to the hard work and sincerity of the teachers of the Faculty of Life Sciences.

“AMU is one of the most prestigious universities with very high standards of teaching and citations, and the Times Higher Education rankings will influence students all over the world to make their study and career choices”, added Prof Tariq Mansoor.

AMU was analysed on different variables that measure academics, citations, international collaboration and publications. These rankings help institutions in funding and bringing in the best recruitment and placement for students.
