GDC Nowshera hosts series of online activities to engage students amid Covid pandemic

Jammu: In an effort to engage the student community constructively during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, the Government Degree College (GDC) Nowshera organized various activities through online platforms, here.
On the eve of World Environment Day, Department of Botany GDC Nowshera celebrated this year’s World Environment Day by organizing a National level Open Online Quiz under the title “True Plant ID: How Much Do You Know? The quiz was organized by Assistant Prof Botany, Pooja Devi.
The quiz contest was based on Plant Identification through Images and covered Plant Biodiversity under 3 main sections – Wild Edible Plants, Spices & Condiments and Plants used in Ayurveda.
A large number of responses were received from 23 different institutions including Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges and Universities across the country, reflecting the high level of enthusiasm amongst the participants.
Apart from students, research scholars and teachers also took part in the online quiz contest. Participants securing 80% and above marks were awarded e-certificate.
Of the total, 9 participants scored 100% marks, 13 of them got 95% and 9 obtained 90% scores.
An Intercollegiate poster making contest was organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences, (GDC Nowshera) on the theme “Biodiversity” on the eve of World environment day to create awareness among the students towards ‘ Environment and Biodiversity’.
The poster making contest was held from 1-6-2020 to 5-6-2020. A total of 65 posters were received from various colleges from across the UT of J&K.
Manisha Dogra of BA semester 4th of GDC Nowshera bagged the 1st position, while Bikram Singh of BA 2nd semester of GDC Majalta clinched the 2nd position and the third position was jointly shared by Amandeep Kaur of BSc 2nd semester and Hardev Singh of BA 4th semester of GDC Nowshera. The poster making contest was organized by Anjna Sharma (Lect.) with the support of Sajjad Ahmad (Asst.Lect)
Last week end, the Department of Physics, (GDC, Nowshera) conducted an online intercollegiate Mock Test in Physics for the students of the sixth semester of UT of J&K. The purpose of the event was to aware Undergraduate 6th-semester students about the new pattern of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) for the conduct of terminal examinations recently announced by the University of Jammu. Students of 16 colleges from across J&K participated in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm. Participants with 80 per cent and above points were awarded e- certificate. The event was conducted by Head of Department of physics, GDC, Nowshera.
The Department of Mathematics organized an Online Intercollegiate Mock Test in Mathematics on the title “Basics of Complex Analysis” for the students of B.A./B.Sc./BCA 6th Semester.
The participants were from G.G.M Science College, GDC Women college parade and Gandhi Nagar, GDC Nowshera, GDC Poonch, GDC Udhampur, S.P. College Srinagar, GDC Magam, GDC Mendhar, GDC Reasi, GDC Thana mandi, Shahib College of education and Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi. Sanjay Singh of G.G.M. Science College secured the first rank, while Anchana Jamwal of GDC Reasi and Waqar Ahmed of GDC Thanamandi secured second and third rank, respectively. The event was conducted by Dr. Summit Sharma, Head of Department Mathematics, GDC, Nowshera.
