Webinar to observe World Environmental Day at Aligarh Muslim University
Aligarh: The Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a webinar on ‘Environmental Management Practice for Sustainable Development’ to observe the ‘World Environmental Day’ in which deliberations were made on sustaining the living world, natural ecosystems and biodiversity.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof Jayashree Rout, Department of Ecology and Environmental Science, Assam University shed light on how sustainable practices are imperative for human existence.
“Effective environmental management can be achieved by monitoring climate changes, maintaining biodiversity and proper disposal of hazardous toxic wastes,” said Prof Jayashree.
In the presidential remarks, Prof Akbar Husain, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences discussed the role of individuals in safeguarding the environment and the steps for future-proofing sustainable recovery and sustainable development.
Prof R Bhaskar, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Guru Jumbeshwar University of Science and Technology stressed the need of maintaining air quality and reducing CO2 emissions.
Prof Jasim Ahmad, Department of Teacher Training and Non Formal Education, Jamia Millia Islamia emphasised the need of providing environmental education to students for maintaining a better society.
Dr Aerum Khan, Department of Teacher Training and Non Formal Education, Jamia Millia Islamia delineated negative impacts of human interventions on ecosystem.
Dr Pallavi Upreti, Uttrakhand Public Service Commission spoke on ‘Constitutional Provisions for Environmental Protection in India’.
Prof Nasrin, Director of the Webinar delivered the welcome address, while Dr Razia B, Organising Secretary briefed on the objectives of webinar. Dr Mehmood Ali extended the vote of thanks.
Over 100 faculty members, research scholars and students attended the online webinar.
