AMU mourns Prof Sabihuddin Alvi’s demise

Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) today mourned the sad demise of Prof Sabihuddin Alvi, former Chairman, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, who passed away after a brief illness. He was laid to rest in the University graveyard.

Seventy seven year-old Prof Alvi retired after an illustrious academic career in 2005.

During his student life, Prof Alvi represented the AMU Table Tennis Club in the North Zone Inter Varsity TT Championships-1965 as the Captain. He was also appointed the manager of Table Tennis Club after joining the University as a teacher.

“The deceased is fondly remembered by the AMU community as an inspiring teacher and a remarkable sportsman. His death has left a void, which is hard to fill,” said the Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

Prof Parvez Mustajab, Dean, Faculty of Engineering also expressed his deep sense of sorrow over his demise and said that Prof Alvi’s affable personality will be remembered by all. The faculty will organise a condolence meeting to mourn the death of two former colleagues Professor Masjood ul Hasan and Professor Alvi tomorrow.
