Aligarh Muslim University organised Conference on ‘Civil Society and Contemporary Legal Issues’
Aligarh: The Law Society, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in collaboration with the MBC Management Consultants, Switzerland organised an International Virtual Conference on ‘Civil Society and Contemporary Legal Issues’ in which experts discussed the role of legal reforms in supporting civil society and how civil society and law are interlinked to each other.
Inaugurating the conference, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor spoke on the importance the institutions like the judiciary, election commission and media in a civil society.
He pointed out that India as a democracy gives the right of freedom of speech and expression to its citizens.
Speaking on the problems face by courts due to the Covid 19 outbreak, Prof Mansoor said that soon there is a dawn after every night and similarly the world will overcome the pandemic.
Dr Mario Boris Curatolo (CEO, MBC Management Consultants, Switzerland) delineated the management of society and the prevalence of social issues.
He further spoke on why it is important for the legal community to adopt the flexible changing nature of the society and urged the participants to emphasise on enhancing knowledge by working hard.
Dr Ferdinand Epoc (University of Buraimi, Oman) highlighted the major issues faced in the contemporary world such as hate speech, commercial frauds and incitement to violence and explained how these issues have affected the society.
Dr Ermal Bino (International University of Struga, Republic of North Macedonia) delineated social capital and its components and how to utilise it for the betterment of the community.
Prof Shakeel Samdani, Dean, Faculty of Law and Director of the Conference discussed the relationship between law and sociology.
“Law is created and put into practice through societal processes and it affects the social change. Like sociology, the field of Law derives majorly from social relationships, principles, social controls and commitments,” he added.
Dr Shad Ahmad Khan (Chair, Staff Professional Development, University of Buraimi, Oman) addressed the importance of Social Fabric in Society and the responsibilities of the people in legal profession.
He added that the civil society is created by shared values and a society without social fabric is null and void.
Prof Wasim Ali introduced the guests and Mr Mohammad Nasir moderated the question and answer session.
Prof Zahiruddin extended the vote of thanks.
