TISS signs MoU with Fr. C Rodrigues Institute of Technology, Vashi on NUSSD
Mumbai: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Technology (Fr. C.R.I.T.), Vashi for implementation of its National University Students’ Skill Development (NUSSD) Programme in Fr. C.R.I.T. to help students gain sustainable and relevant Skills along with their degree to make them employable.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Fr. Saturnino Almeida, Managing Director, Fr. C.R.I.T., Dr. Ivon Almeida, Asst. Director, Dr. S. M. Khot, Principal, Mr. Tanmay
Nayak, Director, NUSSD, TISS, Ms Gayathri Arvind, Chief Operating Officer, NUSSD, Ms
Ramya Balakrishnan, Lead – New Initiatives, NUSSD and Mr Richard Samuel, Sr. Program
Officer, NUSSD. The Heads of the Departments of EXTC, Electrical, Computer Sc., IT, Basic
Sciences and Humanities were among the others present in the meeting and MoU signing
ceremony.
NUSSD, a flagship programme initiated by TISS in 2013, aims at increasing the
employability of University and College students by imparting knowledge and skills,
through cutting edge teaching and learning methods as well as practical work experience
through internships and community projects. In 2015, the United Nations (UN) Steering
Committee on Children and Youth recognized the NUSSD programme as a “Skill
Development Best Practice” in the country. NUSSD will offer courses such as English
Communication, Leadership and People Skills, Analytical Skills, Legal Literacy, Financial
Literacy, Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Integrity and Employability Skills to the 2nd and 3rd
year students. NUSSD will conduct assessments and certify students in ‘Management and
Soft Skills’ at the end of the Programme. “The NUSSD programme is a tried and tested
model which is currently being implemented in more than 120 colleges in 5 states across
the country and we look forward to working with students of Fr. C.R.I.T. to enrich their
academic experience” Mr. Tanmay Nayak said.
A leading engineering college affiliated to Mumbai University, Fr. C.R.I.T.is known for its
high quality, value-based technical education. The college produces quality engineers with
excellent technical skills. While the college continues to focus on imparting technical
education, this collaboration with TISS will help students develop communication and
leadership skills which are equally essential to make the graduating engineers employable.
Addressing the group, Fr. Saturnino Almeida said “we look forward to this partnership” and
Dr. S. M. Khot added saying “our college is thinking ahead of time and we feel the training in management and soft skills will be useful for our students as they will stand a better chance of clearing the interviews and grab opportunities present before them”.
