Jan Abhiyan: Fisheries Department Kupwara holds draw of lots
Kupwara: As a part of Jan Abhiyan/Awami Muhim, Fisheries Department Kupwara today organized a draw of lots event here under the supervision of Steering Committee, constituted by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Anshul Garg.
The purpose of holding the draw of lots was to provide financial assistance for construction of residential houses in favour of fishermen community in a transparent manner in the district.
As many as 44 shortlisted fishermen from Karnah, Kupwara, Handwara and Langate constituencies participated in the event and 18 fishermen were selected for the benefit of financial assistance.
The tickets were lifted by a small child in presence of Steering Committee and participating fishermen.
Assistant Director Fisheries, Sajad Hussain Dar, on the occasion said that these 18 beneficiaries will be covered for construction of Low Cost Housing Scheme under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) Blue Revolution, adding that the quota was for the year 2019-20 and revalidated in the current financial year.
He said Rs.1.30 lakh will be paid to each beneficiary as financial assistance for construction of residential houses and that 44 new fishermen beneficiaries are being covered during current financial year for which application forms are being ascertained from the eligible beneficiaries.
The AD asked the fishermen community to take advantage of welfare schemes envisaged for the community and embrace the fisheries as the means of earning livelihood.
District Statistics and Evaluation Officer, District Panchayat Officer, District Information Officer, Lead District Manager Kupwara among others were present at the event.
