Around 98% of JEE (Advanced) 2020 candidates allocated one of the top three choices as examination cities
New Delhi: JEE (Advanced) 2020 scheduled on September 27th (Sunday) will be conducted across the nation in 222 cities and around 1000 exam centres by IIT Delhi, the organising institute. Total 1,60,831 candidates have registered for the Advanced after qualifying the JEE Main.
Of the total registered candidates who paid their registration fees i.e. 1,55,511 candidates, 97.94% have been allocated examination cities, which fall under the top three choices they had made during the registration.
The rest of the candidates i.e. 2.06% have also been allocated those examination cities, which fall under the eight choices they had made.
All registered PwD candidates, whether they have paid the fees or not, have been allocated their first choice of preference.
There are in total 5320 candidates who have not paid their fees and they may or may not appear for the examination. However, over 62% of the total such candidates have also been allocated examination cities, which fall under the top three choices they had opted for.
Of the total 1,60,831 registered candidates only 991 candidates have been allocated centers out of the 08 choices. These candidates are the ones who have not deposited fee at the time of the registration and it is assumed, on the basis of the past data, that they won’t be appearing for the examination.
The shortage of nodes in some regions resulted in allocation of examination cities beyond top three choices and that too only for a small fraction of the candidates.
Last year there were 164 cities and 600 examination centers. This year, the number of cities with examination centers have been increased to 222 and the number of examination centers to around 1000.
The examination cities to the candidates have been finally allocated completely randomly, based on an advanced algorithm, to achieve the most efficient distribution. The algorithm also takes note of the fact that these are challenging times because of COVID-19 and physical distancing needs to be maintained at each center to ensure their safety.
The organising institute emphasizes that the city allocation for JEE (Advanced) 2020 is completely fair to all the candidates.
Meanwhile, having realised the relevance and criticality of ‘Eduride’ service, a dedicated portal launched by IIT Alumni and students that aims to ease burden of commuting for the needy candidates especially from the remote locations and poorly connected areas, IIT Delhi Alumni Association has informed that the transportation facility via Eduride portal will be available for the JEE Advanced candidates also.
