Vice Chancellor SKUAST- Jammu nominated as Member ICCR General Assembly
Jammu5: On the basis of eminence in the field of culture and education, Professor J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, has been nominated as a member to the General Assembly of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi.
Professor Sharma’s selection was confirmed in the meeting of ICCR Governing body held under the chairmanship of Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President, ICCR recently.
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) was founded in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, independent India’s first Education Minister. Its objectives are to actively participate in the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes pertaining to India’s external cultural relations; to foster and strengthen cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and other countries; to promote cultural exchanges with other countries and people, and to develop relations with nations.
Prof. J.P. Sharma, presently working as Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu was previously posted as Joint Director (Extension) ICAR-IARI , New Delhi. He has also worked as Head, Division of Agricultural Extension and Director, Centre for Advanced Faculty Training (Extension) at IARI, New Delhi. He has a vast experience of more than 33 years conducting strategic research, guiding, teaching post graduate students, conducting national / international training programmes and carrying out agricultural extension activities in the farmers’ field. Prof. Sharma earned his Doctoral degree from IIT, Delhi and Post Graduation from GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, and was awarded Fellowships from IIT and UNDP respectively.
He is an accredited entrepreneurial motivational trainer. He has to his credit researches on highly relevant topics like assessment, refinement of agricultural technologies, peri-urban agriculture and entrepreneurship development conducted as part of funded projects from reputed national/international organizations. Many models, strategies and extension approaches as a result of these studies have now been incorporated in the present extension system. He has published more than 300 papers in reputed journals, magazines and newspapers, published 51 books, bulletins and is editor of many journals of repute. Prof. Sharma is member of various national & International professional committees and has been invited as consultant / expert by various organizations.
