Mushroom cultivation essential component of Entrepreneurship Development under Atmanirbhar Bharat: VC SKUAST-J
Jammu: A ten day training course on Mushroom Cultivation and Spawn Production under Operation Sadbhavna sponsored of Indian Army today commenced, here at Mushroom Research and Training Centre, Division of Plant Pathology, SKUAST-J.
The training programme has been organized for the unemployed rural youth and ex-servicemen of army to enable them that to start their own units of mushroom cultivation and spawn production.
Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Prof. J.P. Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his address, Prof. Sharma said that Mushroom Cultivation is an Essential Component of Entrepreneurship Development. He emphasised upon the trainees to learn the key aspects of mushroom cultivation and spawn production to start their own enterprise. He discussed in detail the concept of Atmanirbhar Bharat and how mushroom cultivation can play a key role in making the farmers self-sufficient and double their income. He stressed upon the need of value addition and marketing of mushrooms.
The programme was also attended by Dr. J.P. Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and the army officers. Dr. Sachin Gupta, Course Director gave a detailed presentation of the course content and vote of thanks was presented by Dr. S.K. Singh, Head, Division of Plant Pathology.
Earlier Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu visited Seed testing Laboratory, Chatha along with Dr. R.K. Gupta, Director Research, Dr. S.E.H. Rizvi, Dean Basic sciences, Dr. Deepak Kher, Director Planning and Monitoring, Rajesh Talwar, Registrar & Comptroller, Ramesh Tanoach, Estates officer, Dr. S. K. Gupta, Controller Examinations, Iqbal Singh, XEN interacted with the scientists.
Nodal Officer (Seed) Dr. Amrish Vaid explained about the facilities available and infrastructure of the Seed testing Laboratory. Prof. Sharma discussed the modalities of starting Division of Seed Science and Technology in the University and envisioned that the PG courses will be offered soon for students. Dr. Magadeshwar Sharma, Dr. Vishal Raina, Dr. Anjani Kumar Singh, Jr. and Dr. Satish Sharma were also present during the visit. Prof. Sharma also visited Faculty of Basic Sciences to interact with the faculty members under Talk at lawns’ initiative of the University.
Dr. S.E.H.Rizvi, Dean, FBSc welcomed the Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries and apprised about the achievements & issues pertaining to the overall growth and development of the faculty. Prof. Sharma also inspected Hydropronics and portable units kept for display and advice for installation of demo units of hydroponics in KVKs.
