Pearl Academy students showcase their ‘Fashion Reboot’ collection at the first-ever phygital India Fashion Week by FDCI

New Delhi: In an exclusive and one-of-its-kind opportunity, Pearl Academy today showcased a design collaboration of its graduating class of 2020 from School of Fashion at the FDCI and Lotus Make-Up India Fashion Week (IFW). Titled ‘Fashion Reboot’, it was the only student-led show amidst displays by senior designers such as Rina Dhaka, Rahul Khanna, Neeta Lulla, Tarun Tahiliani and Suneet Verma during the five-day phygital fashion extravaganza.

Mentored by Antonio Maurizio Grioli, Dean, School of Fashion and faculty members, the students curated ‘Fashion Reboot’- a collection of ensembles they designed to reflect the fierce expressions and youthful essence that are signature to the Gen Z. The virtual runway was their medium to assert that they are undeterred by the ever-shifting realities around them.

Speaking about the students’ showcase at IFW Prof. Nandita Abraham, President, Pearl Academy said, “India Fashion Week by FDCI is one of the best platforms for our students to get the real, practical experience of the fashion industry and serves as a fitting culmination to their graduation year. Our exclusive collaboration with FDCI is a true example of how industry-academia partnerships can create a win-win situation for the students and prepare them for their professional journey ahead.”

Elaborating on the partnership with Pearl Academy, Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI commented, “This is the fifth year of FDCI- Pearl Academy collaboration and we have been strengthening this association every year to adapt to the learning requirements of the students and the evolving fashion industry in India and globally. We are happy to extend all our support to the institute’s pedagogy and their constant endeavors to provide future-oriented fashion education. I admire the agility of their students and the academic team and how they made the most of the first-ever phygital fashion show by FDCI”.

As part of this on-going collaboration, Pearl Academy students get close and personal access to the vast knowledge and experience of fashion veterans at FDCI. The students receive continuous opportunities to interact and learn from them through masterclasses, live industry projects, internships and fashion forecasting immersions. The two organizations are also exploring online courses and inclusion of digital aspects of fashion as digital-first has become the new normal.

Trained as per the industry requirements, Pearl Academy fashion students get recruited by organizations and fashion designers like H&M, Myntra, Globus, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, PUMA, Aditya Birla, Forever New, Neeta Lulla, Gauri & Nainika, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Renyu Tandon and more. Some of the Pearl alumni who have carved a niche for themselves in the fashion industry include Rimzim Dadu, Nikhil Mehra of Shantanu&Nikhil designer duo, Mandira Work and Sumiran Kabir Sharma.
